The Agency's Sheltered Work Center, Genco Industries, provides subcontract work for Individuals with Disabilities. Program Participants perform valuable services like assembly, packaging, and mailings for local businesses and industries and receive wages based on their productivity. Located at 64 Walnut Street, Batavia, the Work Center is designed to encourage the development of appropriate vocational skills and work habits in supportive environment. Additional services include personal and vocational counseling, remedial academics and linkage to social and recreational activities. Many Program Participants then successfully apply these vocational skills to jobs in the community.
The Sheltered Employment program is covered in part by the Local Assistance Contract that is processed through the Community Services Board to the County Legislature and finally to the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD). Funding is also available on a direct 620 contract and the Long Term Sheltered Employment program through OMRDD.
